Comments: Waller ISD is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Assistant Band Director/Percussion Director. The primary responsibilities of this position are to teach and manage all aspects of the percussion program at Waller High School, teach the beginning percussion classes at both feeders, and teach/assist with percussionists in the 7th/8th grade band classes on a rotating basis as allowed by the campus bell schedules. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in teaching all aspects of both marching and concert percussion, the ability to develop and help implement a vertically-aligned curriculum for percussionists in grades 6-12, and a proven track record of successful recruitment and retention of students. This is a full-time, certified band director position. The Waller percussion program has a history of success and is poised for rapid growth and improvement. In the fall, the marching band regularly participates in BOA regionals, is a consistent UIL area qualifier, and has appeared at the UIL State Marching Contest 3 times. In the spring, the percussionists from all three campuses participate in a district-wide percussion concert and all concert bands on all three secondary campuses regularly receive sweepstakes. Additionally, the indoor percussion ensemble is a frequent medalist in TCGC and has been a consistent WGI regional finalist in the Scholastic Marching A class. District wide, the Waller ISD band program consists of a 5A (soon to be 6A) high school and two CCC junior highs with a total of 8 full-time directors. The band program is very cohesive and all directors within the district work together to ensure success at all levels. The campus and district level administration is extremely supportive of the band program. Waller High school will be moving into a brand new facility in the fall of 2022 and both junior highs will have new and/or fully renovated facilities by the fall of 2023. Additionally, funding is available for techs and clinicians to provide additional support to the directors. Waller ISD is a rapidly growing district (current HS enrollment approximately 2200 and is projected to reach 2800 by 2025) in the northwest Houston area located on highway 290 just west of Cy-Fair and north of Katy.
